Signal modernization planned for US 20, SR 120 in multiple counties

ELKHART, LAGRANGE AND STEUBEN COUNTIES, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Indiana Department of Transportation says signal improvements planned along U.S. 20 and U.S. 120 in multiple counties. Beginning on or after Friday, May 24, INDOT contractor, Michiana, is scheduled to begin working on several locations, weather permitting.

The project consists of installing new signal heads, cabinets and other upgrades at several signalized intersections on:

U.S. 120 between C.R. 13 in Elkhart County to C.R. 50 W in Steuben County
U.S. 20 between I-69 and C.R. 100 E in Steuben County
Drivers may see lane restrictions during the work at each intersection.

The project also includes the installation of flashing yellow arrows (FYA) on left-turn signals at specific intersections. Motorists should expect to encounter temporary daytime lane restrictions in both locations. Some overnight work may be needed.

Intersections receiving new FYA signals include:

S.R. 120 at S.R. 15 west junction in Elkhart County
S.R. 120 at C.R. 13/Middleton Run in Elkhart County
U.S. 20 at C.R. 100 E/McBride Avenue in Steuben County
U.S. 20 at both ramps to I-69 in Steuben County
FYA have been shown to improve traffic flow and reduce waiting times at signals.
