Grisly details emerge about Fort Wayne police chase, murder

UPDATE (April 28, 2021):

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The latest update in a weekend police chase and murder in Fort Wayne is unsettling.

Police say two of the young men arrested in the case killed, then cut up the victim.

On Tuesday, prosecutors said the victim, 55-year-old Shane Nguyen, was beaten to death, dismembered, and his body parts were placed into several black trash bags.

His body was in the van that Fort Wayne Police ended up chasing Sunday night. One of the suspects is charged with murder, a second is charged with abuse of a corpse, and police say a third suspect is cooperating. There is no motive in the case yet.

UPDATE (April 27, 2021):

A weekend police chase in Fort Wayne is now part of a homicide investigation. Police yesterday said the man they found dead in a car after a chase Sunday night had been missing since Friday.
He’s being identified as 55-year-old Shane Van Nguyen. There was a Silver Alert issued for him over the weekend.

Investigators say three young men who were in the car that sped away from police are all now in custody. Fort Wayne Police say it’s a homicide investigation, though they are not saying how they think Van Nguyen died.

Monday night, Fort Wayne Police Department officials released the following:

The Fort Wayne Police Homicide Division would like to inform the community that as of 7:45 pm on April 26, 2021 that all 3 of the suspects listed above have been taken into custody.

Detectives would like to thank everyone that provided information to the Police about the possible whereabouts of the suspects.

The suspects are all in police custody and the charges for each subject will be released at a later time as the investigation is still ongoing and they are still gathering more evidence in regards to this homicide.

This incident is still being investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Coroner’s Office, and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Earlier in the day, the Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following regarding Van Nguyen’s death:

The autopsy has been completed and notification has been made to the next of kin for the male victim that was found at in the vehicle at 1500 Forest Park Boulevard, in Fort Wayne, on Sunday, April 25, 2021, at approximately 05:10 hours. The deceased has been positively identified as Shane Van Nguyen, a male, Asian, 55 years of age from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Cause of Death has been determined to be Blunt Force Injury of Head and the Manner of Death is Homicide. Shane Van Nguyen is the 12th Homicide in Allen County for 2021. The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

 

UPDATE (April 26, 2021):

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Investigators in Fort Wayne are looking to see if the driver who died in a crash Sunday morning is the same person who sped away from officers just a few minutes earlier.

Police found the driver dead inside the car that had crashed off Forest Park Boulevard. Fort Wayne Police were chasing the car but called off the chase because it became unsafe. Investigators say two other people were in the car, but they ran once the car crashed. Police are now looking for three people they think may have been involved.
The driver’s death has now been ruled a homicide.

Early Monday morning, The FWPD released photos of the suspects and are asking for the public’s help in finding them.

Fort Wayne Police officials released the following early Monday morning:

The Death Investigation from early Sunday (4/25/21) in which case there was a victim found deceased in a vehicle that had been involved in a pursuit followed by a vehicle accident in the area of Anthony and Lake has been ruled a homicide.

The Fort Wayne Police Department Homicide Detectives have worked Non-Stop since this incident took place trying to find suspects in this crime, and with the assistance of the Gang and Violent Task Force, and Vice and Narcotics Units they have been able to identify the suspects.

These three suspects should be considered very dangerous and Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the whereabouts of these 3 suspects so they can be apprehended by Police and brought in for questioning.

The following have been identified as suspects:

1. Matthew J. Cramer II M/W/21 5’11” 160 lbs Brown hair and Brown eyes

2. Jacob D. Carreon-Hamilton M/H/20 5’7” 170 lbs Brown hair and Brown Eyes

3. Cody Clements M/W/20

ORIGINAL STORY:

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Police Department officials say one person is dead following a northside chase and crash.

FWPD officials released the following:

On April 25, 2021 shortly after 5:00 am an officer of the Fort Wayne Police Department observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Lake and Coliseum. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle at which time the vehicle sped away and a short pursuit began.

A short time later the pursuit was terminated by the officer due to the speed and unsafe conditions.

Officers were advised that there was an accident being reported in the area of Lake and Anthony and the description of the possible vehicle involved was the same as that of the vehicle that was involved in the pursuit.

Officers arrived on scene at the accident and located a vehicle in the rear of a home on Forest Park Blvd that had crashed through the rear fences.

Officers began checking the vehicle for any victims and did locate a victim inside the vehicle that was pronounced deceased on scene.

Investigators and Crime Scene Technicians were called to the scene to investigate the accident

The Identity of the victim will be released at a later time by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

Following the initial release, police received later information and released the following:

In reference to the Death Investigation at Lake and Anthony it has been determined that there were 2 subjects that fled from the vehicle.

1 fled from the vehicle in the area if Inwood between State and Lake Avenue and the other fled from the vehicle at the location of the crash in the are of Lake and Anthony as well as Forest Park Blvd. There is no descriptions of the subjects at this time
