ALLEN CO. Ind. (ADAMS) – The Allen County Sheriff’s Department says that one person, reportedly a teenager, died and another was left with critical injuries after a crash on Monday.
Just before 6:15 p.m., officers responded to calls of a single-vehicle crash in Monroeville on Houk Road close to Heritage Junior/Senior High School.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department says that the van that crashed was heading northbound on Houk when it left the roadway. It hit a utility pole before rolling into a ditch.
The male driver, reportedly a teenager, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger was flown to a nearby hospital with critical injuries.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department released the following:
On September 18, 2023 at approximately 6:13 P.M., officers with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area of Houk Road, north of Monroeville Road, reference a single vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, officers and medics located a van overturned on the east side of the roadway that had struck a utility pole. There were powerlines down in the area from the utility pole that was struck.
A preliminary investigation indicated the van had been northbound on Houk Road, north of Monroeville Road. The van left the roadway for unknown reasons.
The male juvenile passenger was airlifted to a local hospital in serious to critical condition.
The male juvenile driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
This incident remains under investigation.
